'Network & Play' Charity Golf Day Success
This highly successful event to place at Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course last year on 15th September 2011
The Roxburghe Golf Challenge took place on the 15th of September and was a tremendous success. Participating companies came from all across Scotland and the organisers were delighted with such an enthusiastic turnout. The event raised over £2,000 for the Borders Childrens Charity which Roxburghe Hotel supports.
The Roxburghe staff received many compliments during the day, not only about the wonderful condition of the course but also the facilities and in particular the food and the service they all received.
Clare de Bolle, chairperson for Border Childrens Charity is quoted as saying:
"Everyone who came had a tremendous day and in particular raved about the course. I know we were blessed with amazing weather but everywhere looked beautiful. I am afraid to say that at the end I was asked by all teams there whether it would be an annual event because they would love to do it again! Many of the guests had arranged to leave after lunch as had a distance to travel home, but they were having so much fun they didn’t want to leave so decided to stay on for the afternoon activities"
2011 Optical Express Golf Tour at Roxburghe
Hosted at The Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course on 8th and 9th August, the Optical Express Pro Golf Tour provided an opportunity for Scotland's talented golfers to develop their game and achieve their full potential.
By providing competitive playing opportunities closer to home, The Optical Express Pro Golf Tour aims to open doors to golfing talent that were previously blocked by the proportionally high costs of travel and expenses for many talented golfers.
MATCH REPORT (for full version in MS Word format - click here)
The fourth event on the Optical Express Pro Golf Tour at The Roxburghe finished in a two-way tie for the top spot. Overnight leader Neil Fenwick from Dunbar added another 69 to his opening 69 for a 138 total, 6 under par. Eastwood's David Orr, who was two behind Fenwick at the start of the day posted a best of the day 5 under par 67 to tie the Dunbar man. Orr could have won it outright had it not been for a bogey 5 at the par 4 18th, his only blemish of the day. Paul McKechnie from Braid Hills made a gallant effort to win his third consecutive Optical Express Tournament and after closing with a 2nd round 68, finished in tied third only 1 behind the joint winners.
Hilton Park's Gemma Webster who is based in the United States scored two excellent rounds of 74 and 71 for a one over par 145 and a tie for 11th place. On the same mark and also tied for 11th Colin Robinson who scored 73 and 72 to win the title of leading amateur.
The next of the two remaining events will be played at Letham Grange on 21-22 September
Alan Tait, Tournament Director - "This was a hugely successful event at The Roxburghe and the staff and officials could not have been more welcoming, which played a huge part in its success. Every single game that came in, at least one player commented on how good the golf course was and how much they enjoyed it. Course Manager Bob Mackay has only been there a few months and has already done some great work in that short time. He should be very proud of feedback we received this week and for me The Roxburghe will undoubtedly be a permanent fixture on The Optical Express Pro Golf Tour, for many years to come.

Record breaking Pickard wins Scottish Faldo Series at The Roxburghe Golf Club.
1 July 2011: Richard Pickard won the sixth Faldo Series UK Championship of 2011 with a record-breaking total at The Roxburghe Golf and Country Club in Scotland. The 20-year-old was inspired by a putting tip picked up over the television from Sir Nick Faldo.
England’s Pickard (The Mere) posted two rounds of 68 for a total of 136, a Faldo Series record since the 36-hole format was introduced in 2009. Pickard had to come from one shot back on the final day after Adam Dunton (McDonald) equalled his own course record of 67 in round one, a record which he had held since a Series event in 2007.
“I’m in complete shock, this is just incredible,” said an ecstatic Pickard, who qualifies for the 15th Faldo Series Europe Grand Final, hosted by six-time Major Champion Nick Faldo at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland on September 12-14. “Over every putt this week, all I was thinking was ‘right hand back, left hand forward’. I heard Sir Nick talk about this during his commentary of the 2011 Masters and it is a thought that has really helped improve my putting stroke.”
In the Boys’ Under-18 division, Patrick Horsting from Royal St George’s booked his place in the final after he birdied the first extra hole in a three-way play off with Jordan Milne (Elgin) and Craig Howie (Peebles).
Three other age-group winners heading to the World Amateur Golf Ranking event at Lough Erne are Euan Walker from Kilmarnock Barassie (Boys’ Under-16); Jordana Graham from Southerness (Girls’ Under-21); and, for the second year in a row, Lesley Atkins from Gullane Ladies (Girls’ Under-16).
Established in 1996, 35 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 25 countries worldwide with over 5,000 golfers participating each year. Former winners include Rory McIlroy, Nick Dougherty, Marc Warren, John Parry, Melissa Reid, Florentyna Parker and Yani Tseng, all winners on Tour.
Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2011 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 18 tournaments in 11 different countries including seven in England plus others in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Czech Republic, Russia, Greece, The Netherlands, Brazil, Germany and Slovakia.
